If only everyone’s idea of the height of luxury was to spend time with an old rose, what a different world ours would be! Antique, old, and heirloom roses are like bonbons, beautiful gowns, or an old-fashioned romance - perhaps not strictly necessary, but lending such charm to life. This original, hand-done painting of old roses offers a way to capture this charm in your home.
 
Old roses are a marvel. Their treasure of fragrances, from fruit, to spice, to plain, rich “rose” is unforgettable once experienced. Their shapes, from fat little pincushion, to puff pastry creation, to silken drapery, delight the eye and hand. I am so thankful to the rosarians and home gardeners who have kept these hand-me-downs blooming across the centuries. The setting of this painting is the dream garden of some wizardly gentleman rose grower who can get Souvenir de la Malmaison to grow regardless of climate, and whose Boule de Neige never balls. He has filled his charming old greenhouse with lovely, labelled containers of favorite roses, and is setting off down the garden path to welcome his guests with a basket of roses in hand. Is it the local Society of Roses coming for a lecture and tea, or is the painting’s title merely your invitation to enjoy the company of these rare and wondrous flowers? You decide!

The 32” x 24” print features an image that is 24” x 20” total, with a 2” border on the top and bottom, and a 4” border on either side. The 16” x 12” print features an image that is 12” x 10” total, with a 1” border on the top and bottom, and a 2” border on either side. If you take your print to a framer, you can either have it framed with the border or have your framer remove the border before framing.
